Well, it was bound to happen.
9 months of pregnancy, 23+ hours of labor, & 16 years of motherhood.....and this happened yesterday.
Teenie Queenie got her learners permit! We almost didn't make it. For starters, T.Q. took the test three times before she passed. In her defense, she didn't take drivers ed.
Next, the nice lady at the BMV said we could not proceed with anything until T.Q.'s "mother" was with her. "But I am her mother." I corrected her.
Silence.
"Oh. Wow." She said proceeding to rifle through my stack of documents.
Speaking of the proper documents, I was short one piece of identification to help her actually get the permit.
But guess what saved me? My handgun permit! So after showing my birth certificate, her birth certificate, her social security card, my drivers license, a bank statement, & my handgun permit-I paid the $9 and we hit the parking lot.
I was swollen with pride, just like any mother would be. T.Q. was ecstatic. Everything was rainbows & butterflies as she buckled her seat belt. Then she looked at me and said it:
"Which pedal is the gas?"
I contemplated walking home.
Her first run wasn't a complete fail. Because I DID make it home alive. A semi and 25 cars trailing behind us down the highway can attest to that. At one point, I gave thought to hurling myself out of the car door. I'm not going to lie.
But we gave it a go today and she was much better! (Either that, or my 'helping medication' REALLY helped.
Regardless...my baby is on the road. I'm terrified. Pro-tips from parents who have been here are much appreciated.

Congrats!!!
Um yeah let Steve teach her. Like you my nerves are too wound to go through all that. I rode with Jesse and Gene the other day, things look much worse from the back seat. I was about to jump out of my skin by the time we had driven 4 miles. You are a braver woman than me.. period.
LOL. Congrats T.Q.! Isn't the driver's license bureau incredible with what you have to provide? It's like you aren't even a citizen of the United States. Yikes.
Well done to Teenie Queenie on her massive achievement, I know how important it is to be able to drive in America and really hope that she does a good job of it, congratulations to her!
My congratulations to Teenie Queenie--- and my prayers for you! :-) Good luck! And, no, you really can't tell you're the mom of a child who can legally drive!
I hate to admit this, but I've asked the pedal question several times myself-Stupid Lymie brain!
Congratulations to T.Q.! This is BIG in a teenager's life :)
With each of my kids, I took 'em to a wide open parking lot and explained the pedals and all the dashboard crap and let them drive slowly from one spot to another. Once comfortable that they knew how to control the vehicle, we went to our quiet neighborhood and drove around a little. So, much is riding the fine line between building up their confidence so they don't drive scared but making sure they are still scared enough to take everything seriously.
Good luck!
My mother made me learn on a stick shift before she'd let me get my actual license. Imagine that horror. :)
Aww, that is so exciting! Congrats to TQ and good luck to you and whoever is riding with her ;)
xoxo
Well there's a great compliment! And ooooh boy. I remember driving with my mom was the most stressful thing in the world. I still get nervous when she visits and I drive. I think it's something I will never outgrow!
LOL, I know that mix of terror and pride as I've broken in two drivers. It's a mixed blessing isn't it?
Haaa! The lady thought you were her sister. That is awesome. Also, I hate you. *muaw*
